Judge Peter Cahill said [remarks] by Rep. Maxine Waters over the weekend could lead to the trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin being overturned on appeal.

(Court TV via AP, Pool) After defense attorney Eric Nelson criticized “U.S. representatives [for] threatening acts of violence in relation to this specific case,” Cahill said Waters’ calls for protesters to get “more confrontational” if Chauvin is acquitted may have undermined the legitimacy of the entire trial.
“I’ll give you that Congresswoman Waters may have given you something on appeal that may result in this whole trial being overturned,” Cahill replied.
